Gahanna's terrain falls toward Big Walnut Creek. On a hillside lot, groundwater moves downhill through the soil and meets the uphill wall of the basement first. That is why so many Gahanna leaks show on one side of the house only.

The fix often has two parts: intercept water on the uphill side with a yard drain or better grading, and handle what still reaches the wall with an interior drain along that wall.

Walkouts and partial basements

Homes built into the slope often have a walkout on the low side. The buried walls on the uphill side do all the work, and the walkout door can let surface water in if the grade at the patio is wrong. We check both.
